Westfield Shopping Centre

Just months before the highly anticipated Olympic Games begin, Indigo have installed parasols on the rooftop of the Westfield Shopping Centre in Stratford, overlooking the spectacular Olympic Park.

As you can imagine, this is currently one of the most coveted locations in the run-up to the highly anticipated Games; we have been told this rooftop is an ideal spot for press opportunities and social events, including private photo shoots with British athletes and corporate hospitality for both the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

We were asked to install 15 A4 Xtreme Giant Parasols in two separate locations on the rooftop, which proved to be technically challenging to say the least. One installation required the contractors to build a large extension on top of the roof consisting of a 7 metre high scaffold platform in an area about the size of three tennis courts – quite the achievement at such a height!

Usually when working at such great heights, we’d employ the use of cranes to install awnings and parasols; however, due to the nature of the location, it was closed off from the public and we could not access the area as standard. Undeterred, we put our heads together and formulated a new plan, where components for each parasol would be physically carried into the building and assembled on the rooftop.

The team worked hard and despite these challenges, they built the parasols to perfection, providing guests with protection from all weathers and an incredible view of the spectacle before them. These parasols can withstand high winds of up to 120km/h: a necessary feature due to the precarious nature of the product and exposed location of the rooftop.

Both projects were a great success, with the A4 Xtreme Parasols proving to be an ideal choice in providing sturdy yet aesthetically striking parasols for one of the most important events held in recent British history.

To top it all off, Westfield were so impressed by the work with these challenging installations that they would only allow Indigo to install parasols in the shopping centre during this period. A job well done, we’d say!
